ENGINEERING MANAGER

Position Description

The Engineering Manager will fully oversee and manage the engineering function at Stonecast Products. This is a great opportunity to step out of the ‘engineering team’ at your current employer and take your career to the next level. This position is part of Stonecast’s management team.

Position Responsibilities Include:

Project Engineering:
o Member design, typically Wall panel calculations
o Lateral Design for our precast structure
o Connection design
o Pole Brace design
o Responsible for checking of precast erection shop drawings, mold, and piece drawings, ensuring accuracy and conformance to plans and specifications. These documents are created from
architectural and structural documents utilizing CAD.
o Work closely with customers, contractors, vendors, sales, engineering/project managers, production, and mold shop to establish and ensure logistics and accuracy of specifications.
o Use strategic thinking with all production departments to ensure profitability, efficiency, and meeting the overall goals of the project.
o Engineering review of erection drawings prior to submittal
o Ability to work in a fast pace environment

Serves as Engineering Coordinator for outside consultants regarding design requirements and detailing:

o Coordinate preferred details and hardware with outside consultants
o Coordinate schedule and requirements with outside consultants on design calculations.

Plant Engineering:

o Audit for efficient design
o Check center of gravity and handling for all pieces
o Resolve conflicts between piece drawings and production
o Repair details
o Develop a repair detail system for tracking and following through on all repair details.
o Laying out strand patterns
o Resolving Material substitutions, boneyard organization and inventory
o Scheduling of production
o Coordinating piece drawings
o Scheduling of Project Leaders and Drafters

Special assignments (examples listed below):

o Investigate cracks on panels or pieces
o Design of special yard or shop equipment
o Provide additional assistance to the team as necessary

Other Responsibilities:

oDevelops the Engineering Design Package
oPerforms sales design and value engineering
oAttends Preapproval / Approval meetings when required.
oAttends jobsite Meetings and observations when required.
oDevelops a library of standard Lifters and capacity.
oDevelops a library of reinforcing standards.
oDevelops a library of standard connection details and design calculations to go along with the connections

Training of Drafting staff:

Participates in efforts to develop written design standards within the department. Provides training and holds others accountable to the standards.
Training includes:
*How to read design calcs
*How to properly reinforce a piece
*How to adjust pre-stressing forces to eliminate bowing
*How to properly place lifting inserts
*Check all plate drawings

Educational Requirements and Competencies Required for Success:

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.; B.Eng.; B.A.I.) AND license (PE / P.E. / Professional Engineer)
Preferred: Master of Engineering AND license (PE / P.E. / Professional Engineer)
• 5+ years experience as an engineer in precast
• Excellent computer skills including Auto CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience
• Strong computer detailing skills with precision and attention to detail
• Strong mathematical skills

QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER

Position Description

The Quality Control Manager facilitates the production of high quality architectural and structural precast concrete products, including inspection, sampling, and testing. Applies experience and sound judgment to ensure all components are manufactured to the highest of standards, and to create a culture among employees on the shop floor that revolves around safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Works closely with the production and engineering departments to prevent problems from occurring and to solve them when they do occur.

Experience, Skills, and Educational Requirements Required for Success:

• Formulates and maintains quality control objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
• Creates and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
• Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with others to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
• Provides inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
• Directs quality control inspections and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
• Designs and implements quality control training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
• Communicates with engineers concerning questions or problems with drawings or details.
• Prepares company for Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Audit every 6 months.
• When requested by Plant Manager, participate in GC, Architect, and Owner plant visits and perform plant tours.
• Conducts research and development as needed.

• Aggregate and Cement Receiving
• Tracks sample fabrication
• Reviews stressing calculations
• Inspects panels in the yard, noting appearance and overall quality, making sure needed repairs are made.
• Works with production daily on improving overall quality by communicating observations.
• Provides support to Engineering Department as required.
• Reviews drawings of pieces to be produced daily.
• Keeps records of all materials received and panels produced and produces quality control reports.
• Responds to customer or engineering requests.

Professional Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years experience in Quality Assurance
• Advanced math skills
• Ability to read and interpret Building Code requirements
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret architectural and engineering documents
• PCI Level III required
• ACI I
• Solid understanding of plant practices and quality control procedures
• Ability to identify and solve color/texture/pouring issues
• Ability to identify and participate in the solution for repeat casting problems
• Ability to diagnose and remedy concrete strength or consistency problems

Senior and Junior CAD Designer / Project Leader (2 positions)

The Senior CAD Designer / Project Leader is responsible for preparing erection shop drawings using Auto CAD and 3D modeling. MOLD SHOP CARPENTER (ROUGH OR FINISH)

Position Description

The Carpenter who joins our team will have experience in cabinetry and other finish carpentry or rough carpentry, and have the ability to create precise, high quality wooden forms for a variety of precast concrete products. Work is primarily done indoors in our state-of-the-art carpentry shop. The carpenter’s work is face-paced, yet precise and thorough, cutting pieces of material and installing them one piece at a time to ensure accuracy. This differs from general carpentry, which does not use exacting methods.

Experience, Skills, and Educational Requirements Required for Success:

• 5+ years carpentry experience; cabinetry a plus.
• Familiarity of CNC programming is a plus.
• Ability to read architectural blueprints.
• Ability to cut accurate, complex, compound miters and copings.
• Must possess an excellent eye for detail.
• Must be very precise and exact with measurements and cutting tools.
• Possess excellent basic math skills, including fractions and angles.
• Experience with a variety of carpentry tools, including a power miter saw, table saw, tape measure, square, angle gauge, chisels, router, band saw, planer, drill press, panel saw, belt sander, jig saw, joiner and shaper.
• Needs manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and physical ability to perform stated duties, including a good sense of balance.

Position Description

The Yard Laborer who joins our team will assist in a variety of duties in our precast concrete yard and will have a hard-working and team player attitude! If you like working outdoors year-round, you’ll love this job!

• Assists yard crew in sandblasting, patching, acid etching of concrete products.
• Has ability to learn to operate 65 ton all-terrain crane to move large wall panels & other concrete products.
• Loads concrete products on various delivery vehicles, ensuring security and safety for transporting.
• Operates front end loader to transport various materials.
• Assembles concrete products on pallets and wraps securely and appropriately for delivery to job site.
• Organizes and cleans yard and removes debris to keep a safe environment for all employees and clients.
• Provides appropriate yard maintenance, i.e., snow plowing, shoveling, salting as needed.
• Maintains yard vehicles and equipment as needed to ensure all are being kept in good working condition.
• Performs crane rigging and signaling for drivers as needed.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively several times a day.
• Proven experience using crane, forklift, skid loader, semi yard trailer.
• Works year-round in all weather conditions.
